Hi

I think my transmission (automatic, 97 Blazer) is slipping, and I wanted to know if it would be safe/advisable to go on an interstate road trip with it in such condition.

I plan on going from NJ to VA next month, but due to financial constraints I don't think I'll be able to repair the transmission before then.

I'm not 100% sure it's slipping, as I'm basing my diagnosis on one symptom :

Shifts from 1st to 2nd from rest result in a lurch after I drive around for a while. The time/distance it takes for this to happen vary; it's happened coming home from work (around 15 miles) but also has not happened during the same drive. It seems to happen after certain distances or when days are hot. Hotter days tend to be the worst.

I was considering renting a car for this trip, so it won't be a big deal if I can't use my own car.

Thoughts?

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
